Life Beyond Burnout

When's the last time you really exhaled? If much of your day is spent caring for others, it can be hard to find breathing room for yourself. The trouble is, when we don't make time for ourselves, we burn out ~ and that's not good for us or the people we care for.

Beyond Burnout is a 4-week live, online workshop designed to help you avoid burnout, and creatively cultivate self-compassion for mind, body and spirit. Self-care is important for everyone. For professional caregivers, it's an ethical imperative. When we incorporate effective self-care strategies in our everyday lives, we reduce the likelihood of professional impairment. And we have energy and space for what matters most to us.

In this workshop, you will practice art journaling as you learn core self-compassion principles, the warning signs of burnout, and burnout-avoiding self-care practices. The curriculum incorporates current research on burnout, self-care, creativity, self-compassion, and the body's stress-response cycle.

Through step-by-step guidance and regular art journaling, you will create a personalized self-care plan ~ your Beyond Burnout guide. This valuable tool will help you avoid burnout and respond to difficult moments in your personal and professional life with greater kindness, care and creativity.

This workshop is appropriate for healthcare professionals as well as the general public. Healthcare professionals will be able to incorporate the tools and practices offered in this program in ways beneficial to clients or patients.

“As a therapist, you not only hold space for somebody else going through something really hard, but you also need to be well-resourced for yourself. I was feeling incredibly burnt out when Lea offered her training, and it was really beautiful, helpful and impactful. The burnout training normalized my experience and helped me better understand why I was feeling that way. Lea is very authentic, and I feel her care and warmth. You can tell that she's done the work and also that she's human and she goes through things herself ~ it's not toxic positivity."

"Lea's teaching is so wonderful! And easy and natural. The pacing is perfect. The content is digestible. Just the right amount of everything. It felt so great to draw and paint ~ it’s been a long time. So glad I signed up!"

did you know?

when we draw, we're twice as likely to retain what we learn

There's power in our creativity ~ it helps us reconnect with our aliveness and humanness. Plus, it's fun! And, research shows that when we incorporate drawing in our learning, we're twice as likely to retain what we learn. It doesn't have to be complicated, either: If you know how to write, you know how to draw. The supplies I recommend are very simple: a spiral-bound watercolor or mix-media pad, and a simple, affordable watercolor set. That's it! ❤️

I like to make thoughtful decisions, too.

I know that these past few years have been hard. Caregivers have given a lot. And you’re probably tired and looking for comfort and relief. You also may have noticed that in hard times, the inner critic tends to get louder. We can feel like relief and comfort aren't allowed.

It can seem like we shouldn’t have needs or do “frivolous” things.

But in tough times we need to find joy and play wherever we can. And for professional caregivers, self-care is an ethical imperative.

We need a space where we can replenish and remember that nothing can take away our power to create, and our capacity to appreciate what we find beautiful.

When I turn to my art journal, it’s not just to take a break from the tough things in life. It’s also to remind myself that play and beauty co-exist with pain and grief.

I’d love to be your guide and show you what the combination of self-compassion and creativity can do. In Beyond Burnout, we’ll explore this together. Let's practice finding joy and comfort right where we are.
